Positive Vibrations - A site "dedicated to positive trends and directions, good news, senseless optimism, creativity, humor and good feelings."

Monty Roberts - "The Man Who Listens to Horses" - A look at Monty Roberts' approach to training horses. Instead of trying to break and control them, Roberts has developed a positive way for trainers to work with horses.

BUSINESS & MANAGEMENT

Quantum Organizations - Subtitled "A New Paradigm for Achieving Organizational Success and Personal Meaning," this Adobe Acrobat slideshow offers an exploration of the differences between Newtonian and Quantum organizations. (Adobe Acrobat reader required.)

Simple, Yet Complex - A great article in CIO Enterprise Magazine that discusses the use of complexity theory to help managers improve the way they lead organizations.

Employee Ownership - A discussion of the benefits of employee ownership on the web site of SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation), a diversified high-technology research and engineering company based in San Diego, California. I discuss employee ownership in Owning Our Work.

Management of Crisis - By John Barnard, Ec.D., an examination of the nature of crisis, and how management of it can be adapted to our changing world.

The Chaos ThinkSite - "...an electronic platform dedicated to replacing the archaic and limiting managerial mindset framed during the scientific enlightenment of the 17th century with Chaos, the immensely powerful new world view emerging from the discoveries of modern science."

Complexity Theory and Management Practice - Explores the claimed implications of complexity theory for management, and examines their validity.

WWW and The Demise of The Clockwork Universe - Using the context of software development, this site discusses the shortcomings of the classical scientific world view, and draws on principles from such new scientific fields as chaos and complexity to provide a framework for constructing adaptive, evolutionary information systems.

 ECONOMICS

Why Markets Aren't Rational but Are Efficient - An examination of how markets function, drawing on principles from complexity science, presented by the Santa Fe Institute.

Making Markets Work for Sustainability - Noting that economic expansion all too often leads to environmental degradation, this article discusses policies and programs that aim to develop an economy that coexists in harmony with the environment.

GOVERNMENT

Making Ends Meet in Washington State - While not mentioning quantum principles per se, this article describes the new, bottom-up approach to budgeting taken by Washington State. This process was implemented with the help of the consulting firm Public Strategies Group, which is promoting other bottom-up government solutions as well.

The Big Idea - An article by Robert Wright that draws on the historic trend of increasing interdependence among peoples of the world. He argues that the "interdependence paradigm" offers "...the most concise guide for policy development in a post-9/11 world."

Complexity, Global Politics, and National Security - The proceedings of a 2-day symposium sponsored by The National Defense University and the RAND Corporation in November 1996. Particularly interesting is Command and (Out of) Control: The Military Implications of Complexity Theory

The Real Military Revolution - An article from the US Army War College Quarterly that explores the implications of the "digitization of the battlefield," where the soldiers on the front line will have has much information as their commanders.

Clausewitz and Complexity - A web site that explores the congruence between the world-view of the famous military thinker Carl von Clausewitz "...and that of modern nonlinear science and of Complexity theorists."

War Against Information-Age Terrorism - A brief discussion (in the context of the Kashmir conflict) of how the traditional Newtonian paradigm is insufficient for dealing with modern-day terrorism. (Unfortunately, its graphics appear to be missing.)

Challenge and Change for Military Institutions, Professions and Leadership of the 21st Century - A paper for Uruguay's Ministry of National Defense, which explores "...the idea that our world can (no) longer be seen in the light of stability and predictability, but from a view of chaos where man is no longer in front of it, yet (is) an important part of it." (Adobe Acrobat reader required.)

Evolving Public Agency Beliefs and Behaviors Toward Ecosystem-Based Stewardship - Part of a paper that discusses the shift from a Newtonian, mechanical world view to a Quantum, organic one, and its implications for forestry. For a fuller sense of this shift in practice, see also: Toward a Scientific and Social Framework for Ecologically Based Stewardship of Federal Lands and Waters.

Urbatecture - Drawing ideas from quantum theory, architect Ayssar Arida has developed the concept of Quantum Urban Design to help us understand how truly vibrant cities are created. See also an article by Kristel Halter titled "We built this city...with quantum mechanics."

About New Urbanism - An introduction to a movement that takes a holistic approach to urban planning.

Televote: Expanding Citizen Participation in the Quantum Age - This book, written by political scientist Christa Slaton, was reviewed by Scott London.

SOCIAL PROGRAMS

Intro to Political Science - A brief discussion of concepts relevant to both the physical and social sciences.

Alcohol and Other Drug Education Project - Focused on the social context of individual behavior, this innovative program at Hobart & William Smith Colleges strives to counter alcohol and drug abuse by dispelling misperceptions about peer behavior. Also discussed in an article published by the American Sociological Association.

Common Ground Community - An innovative organization based in midtown Manhattan that is taking an holistic approach to dealing with homelessness and joblessness. Also described in an article by BBC News.

Corporation for Supportive Housing - A national organization that "...strengthens, supports and advances the work of organizations that provide a home and a link to healthy community life for the most marginalized Americans..."

TECHNOLOGY

Schrodinger's Machines - Written by Paul Davies, this page features the forward to a book of the same name by Gerard Milburn. Milburn's book discusses current and future technologies that are based on quantum physics.

The Centre for Quantum Computation - "...based at the University of Oxford, conducts theoretical and experimental research into all aspects of quantum information processing and into the implications of the quantum theory of computation for physics itself."

HEALTH & MEDICINE

Complexity and Chaos In Nursing - A journal focused on using the paradigms of chaos and complexity to develop new concepts and theories for the field of nursing.

The Program in Integrative Medicine - Located at the University of Arizona, this program draws on new paradigms in quantum science and holistic interconnectedness to develop a new approach to health care and physician training.

Frontier Science: an Interview with Beverly Rubik, Ph.D. - Dr. Rubik, a biophysicist, discusses the limitations of the mechanistic world view underlying conventional medicine and the emerging research that may constitute the basis of a more inclusive paradigm.
